Motherhood
Mothers are special for every one. Also, being a mother is a very very special part of every one's life.
Many people have already written and spoken about mothers over and over but it is never enough said. Mother is some one who brings you to this world, takes care of you, nourishes you, teaches you and prepares you to face the big bad world! Not only this but also mother is your special space. You are very sure most of the times that you can cry, laugh, throw tantrums, behave silly in that very special space but will never get judged. You might get scolded, disciplined but will never get judged here.
Also, being mother is a very special thing. It all starts even before the baby's birth. As soon as you come to know that you are going to be a mom, your whole life changes. Your focus from yourself shifts or at least gets shared from you to some one else. You start making small, small changes in yourself which you might not even have thought about in past. Changing food habits, taking extra care of your health are just the few beginnings.
Even though both these phases of being some one's child and being a mother are super special, motherhood is not limited just to these two things. I feel it is not just a thing you do. It is a way of life. It's not doing, it's being.
When we look at what is mother, it's not limited to giving birth. It's also bringing up the child with care and attention. Facilitating it's growth, nurturing and protecting. I think if you have this feeling towards anything, you are experiencing motherhood or fatherhood. We have the natural tendency to get attached to people or even things that we stay in contact for long. If this attachment goes too far it can also bring negative feelings like possessiveness, jealousy and sometimes even despair after losing it.
It would be wonderful if we can replace this attachment by motherly feelings. Motherhood is not about getting attached to something with the expectations of getting some benifits in return. It absolutely appreciates reciprocation but it is never selfish. In fact motherhood is all about being strong and using our miraculous powers of nurturing and growing something. This brings joy and sense of fulfillment, keeping away the negativity.
We often see many examples in our society of this extended motherhood. There are so many people like Mother Teresa, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Dr. Prakash Amte, Sindhutaai Sakpal, Martin Luther King Jr. and so on who extended their motherhood to not only their families but to the entire world and gave birth, nurtured and strengthened the new better world.
Love is a beautiful super power humans possess. It is even more powerful when combined with the strength of motherhood. Because only mother knows what is best! :)
I would say I understood my mother only when I gave birth to my daughter n why it is said in our shastra S that आईचे उपकार नाही फेडता येत.
